George Condo Biography
George Condo is an American contemporary visual artist, renowned for his unique and influential work that spans across painting, sculpture, drawing, and printmaking. Born on November 10, 1957, in Concord, New Hampshire, Condo's artistic journey began with his studies in Art History and Music Theory at the University of Massachusetts in Lowell. His education there, particularly a course on Baroque and Rococo painting, left a lasting impact on his artistic development.
In the late 1970s, Condo's creative pursuits extended to music when he joined the proto-synth/punk band The Girls, alongside abstract painter Mark Dagley and avant-garde musician Dave Hild. The band's encounter with Jean-Michel Basquiat's group, Gray, in 1979, proved pivotal for Condo. Basquiat's encouragement led him to relocate to New York City to immerse himself in the burgeoning art scene.
